Supreme Court Won’t Hear Esperanza Hills Case

It is a big disappointment to hear that the California Supreme Court opted not to hear the case on Esperanza Hills. The Orange County Board of Supervisors approved the project–the latest iteration–with a 3-2 vote last September. These 340 multi-million dollar houses are proposed immediately adjacent to Chino Hills State Park. There is one more lawsuit appeal pending. It’s Over. We Won Madrona.

The California Supreme Court has just turned down the developer’s request for review of the Madrona Project.   Game Over.  We won. After a 17 year battle to stop Madrona, a dangerous hillside development of 162 houses deep in the fire prone Carbon Canyon area of Brea, conservationists are celebrating a final victory. Ridgeline Case Resolved, “We” Won!

Hills For Everyone, along with many other organizations, signed on as a “friend of the court” in a case brought by residents in the City of Orange.  In a unanimous decision, the State Supreme Court ruled in “our” favor.  The case stems from a site called Ridgeline, where a developer had proposed converting open space into housing by relying on an old General Plan designation, even though a new Plan was in place stating it was open space.  Residents overturned … Read More
