Today we remember the toll the Freeway Complex Fire took on those in Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside, and San Bernardino Counties. The fire burned 30,305 acres and more than 300 homes were damaged or destroyed–mostly in Yorba Linda. Ninety-five percent of Chino Hills State Park burned as well. In honor of Veterans Day, Congressman Gil Cisneros published this opinion piece in the Orange County Register. The theme revolves around support for permanently funding the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), the importance of our parks, and how these parks play a significant role in the lives and well being of our veterans.
