Brea Brush Fire on 4th of July

In case you hadn’t heard there was a 2-3 acre brush fire in Carbon Canyon (Brea side) around 2:30 this morning (July 4th). Below are a few photos. Damp morning conditions, low winds, and low temps appear to have aided the fire agencies working the fire. It appears the fire burned the OCTA ‪‎Hayashi‬ Preserve. Madrona Ruling Filed

One week ago, Hills For Everyone and other co-petitioners got the decision from the judge that indeed, the City of Brea had violated its own planning laws. The judge filed a minute order, which requires the winners (us) to file a ruling. It was filed by our attorneys at Shute, Mihaly and Weinberger last Friday. Madrona Project Overturned in Court

We just received the ruling from Orange County Judge Robert Moss and couldn’t be more thrilled. We won! He granted our petition almost across the board. He found that Brea violated its own planning documents, that the Environmental Impact Report was not adequate, and therefore the 162 unit housing project next to Chino Hills State Park is no longer approved. Brea Might Create Environment Committee

Residents in Brea have raised concerns over oil operations in the City, specifically hydraulic fracturing (also known as fracking).  OC Register Columnist Terry Daxon discussed this topic in a recent article.  She asked Hills For Everyone if this was under its purview.  Executive Director Claire Schlotterbeck stated that it was not, as our focus is land preservation.
