Many of the projects Hills For Everyone is involved with are at the Wildland Urban Interface. These locations are particularly difficult to defend, especially when Santa Ana Winds are a factor. It is helpful to have OCFA take this approach–an outside investigation–and review of its responses to the #CanyonFire2. Canyon Fire Burns State Park

Thursday 10:28 PM – OCFA reports new acreage count at 2,662 and containment at 60%. Six structures have burned. Two helicopters are doing air drops. Crews on scene doing mop up. 8:58 AM – OCFA reports it is holding steady at 2,500 acres, but now there are 520+ firefighters on-scene. At sunrise the fixed wing aircraft started up again. Fire Dangers in OC Canyons

The OC Register released an article on the risks of building homes in the canyons. Not only do firefighters have to contend with rugged terrain, but they must also deal with winding, narrow and dead-end streets. Taxpayers bear the burden of paying for homes in dangerous locations when fires strike. Maybe it is time to stop building houses at the Wildland-Urban Interface?
