OCTA Approves Conservation Plan

In 2005, Friends of Harbors, Beaches and Parks coordinated a coalition of environmental groups to negotiate a comprehensive mitigation program for the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA), as it considered renewing its 1/2-cent sales tax measure called Measure M.  Hills For Everyone was one of 30+ conservation and community groups that supported this concept and ultimately the measure.  The measure committed OCTA to spend a minimum of 5% (roughly $243.5 million) on acquisition, restoration, and management.  To date, the Authority … Read More

Conservation Plan Gets First Thumbs Up

We wanted to report that on Wednesday, there was the first of three approvals of Conservation Plans written by the Orange County Transportation Authority that permanently protects 1,300 acres of land and restores nearly 400 through a mitigation program. Chino Hills State Park has received funds for two restoration projects and is currently managing the 296-acre Hayashi Preserve in Carbon Canyon. Brea Brush Fire on 4th of July

In case you hadn’t heard there was a 2-3 acre brush fire in Carbon Canyon (Brea side) around 2:30 this morning (July 4th). Below are a few photos. Damp morning conditions, low winds, and low temps appear to have aided the fire agencies working the fire. It appears the fire burned the OCTA ‪‎Hayashi‬ Preserve.
