Fun Facts about Coast Live Oaks: These large evergreen trees have a short trunk with numerous large, crooked, spreading branches. They can also be wider than they are tall. The fact that oaks have crooked spreading branches in part saved them from being harvested because builders like long straight wood.

This map outlines the status of lands in the 31 mile long Wildlife Corridor, including existing publicly and privately protected natural lands, properties privately owned, threatened and proposed developments. Wow. This was a complete about face for the courts. The Matrix Oil project decision, which had been stopped in the court, was just reversed. The old contract between Whittier and Matrix is expired. This decision allows the oil company and the City to renegotiate a new contract and specific terms for oil drilling in the Puente Hills Preserve. Read the Whittier Daily News article.
