Hellman Park Taking a Beating, Residents Upset with Visitors

Residents registered serious complaints to the Whittier City Council in September about the misuse and abuse of Hellman Park in Whittier. Research done about the park visitors indicates that 75% of users are coming from outside of Whittier, which in and of itself, is having a huge impact on traffic and street parking near the Park. The Puente Hills Habitat Preservation Authority is considering its options. Check out this Whittier Daily News article.

Puente Hills Park Meeting, EIR Released

The next meeting on the Puente Hills Landfill Park Master Plan is on Wednesday, June 29th at 6:30 PM.  The Public Review Draft Environmental Impact Report will be presented to the community and stakeholders. Following a presentation, the consultant team will facilitate a discussion and conduct a question and answer session.  The LA County Parks Department is doing a good job advertising the meeting. Wilderness Park or Tourist Destination?

Ideas proposed for the Puente Hills Landfill are being considered. While some are habitat, wilderness and trail focused, others scream tourist destination with gondolas, restaurants and manufactured features. Nearby residents have endured decades of trash related activities, they may not be interested in having millions of people flood the hills and their neighborhoods. What’s your take on the plans?
