Oversight Board Wants Answers from Industry

The plot thickens… “What are you (City of Industry) going to do with Tres Hermanos?” asks the Oversight Board. They demand knowing the City’s intentions with the land since there is no deed restriction or conservation easement ensuring the land will STAY open space. Tres Hermanos Sale to Industry

On Thursday (September 8th), we anticipate the City of Industry to unanimously approve the purchase and sale agreement for the transfer of the Tres Hermanos property. The land was originally purchased by the City’s Redevelopment Agency more than 30 years ago. With Redevelopment Agencies now dissolved by state mandate, the City had to come up with a new plan. Industry to Buy 800 More Tonner Canyon Acres

The City of Industry is in escrow to purchase the last major ownership in Tonner Canyon. Owned by the Boy Scouts of America this land has been used for all sorts of nature-related youth events (camping, archery, picnics, etc.) Hills For Everyone’s Claire Schlotterbeck is concerned about the sale because of the important habitat the canyon contains for wildlife.

City of Industry Faces Massive Fines

Apparently the City of Industry is looking at nearly $6 million in fines due to damaging the environment.  City officials contend the former Mayor’s company “Zerep,” hired for a variety of tasks, did the damage unbeknownst to the City or Council and without a permit.  The City is contemplating filing a suit against the former mayor.  Hills For Everyone Executive Director, Claire Schlotterbeck, stated she hoped the audit of City docs would shed light on the system. Tonner Canyon

The City of Industry has its sights set on scraping the hillsides clean and constructing several dams along with side (saddle) dams in Tonner Canyon, as well as adding a road along the ridgetop–all of this on top of an earthquake fault.  This land lies in San Bernardino, Los Angeles and Orange Counties and its not contiguous with the City of Industry’s city boundary.
